Domingo Goes North
En route to his destination, Domingo met up with a group of people whose beliefs were very different from his own. They did not believe in one God; they believed in two gods. Domingo had never heard of such a thing. Curious and fascinated, he chatted up the innkeeper where he was staying, who happened to be a member of this group. All night long they argued and discussed. By morning, Domingo had persuaded the innkeeper to return to the Catholic Church. His success in converting the innkeeper, and the knowledge that there were thousands more just like him, set Domingo to dreaming: what if there were a group of religious dedicated to preaching the truth? Domingo's lifework was beginning to take shape.

Who Was Dominic And Why Are We Writing About Him Now?
A young up-and-coming priest, Dominic de Guzman had gained the attention of the higher-ups in his diocese. It was the early 1200s. Dominic (or Domingo, in his native Castile) was a charismatic sort. Already, early in his church career, he had done some pretty astounding things--selling his precious books, for instance, to raise money to feed starving people. That kind of thing got noticed. Domingo's superior noticed. This rising star would go places.
As far as Domingo was concerned, he figured he'd never venture out of Castile. Then one day the bishop invited Domingo to go on a trip north. That trip turned Domingo's world upside down.
Nothing would ever be the same again.
